To: Presidents of Canadian Universities

We, the undersigned students, are deeply concerned about the problem that many Iranians in Canada, including graduate students, have recently faced, as their spouses? or parents? visa applications have been refused by the Canadian Embassy in Tehran, Iran. It may not be a legislated policy, but the growing number of incidents confirms an unfair trend of discrimination against Iranians that negatively affects the life of this community. As a result of this new policy, many Iranians feel discriminated and emotionally challenged in Canada, a country famous for embracing multiculturalism and human rights. Canadian universities have also been affected by this new policy. The emotional toll on Iranian students has negatively affected their academic performance. In some cases, after years of research, many are considering to return prematurely to Iran without completing their degrees. Furthermore, many highly qualified Iranian students who are planning to study abroad are not considering Canadian universities as their primary choices anymore. We call on you, presidents of Canadian universities, to assist us in our efforts to lobby the Federal Government of Canada to recognize these unfair policies that are taking place at the Canadian Embassy in Tehran, Iran. Sincerely, The undersigned
